01 / About Aurum
Aurum is an African health research and implementation organisation that works with governments, communities and partners to generate evidence and strengthen the systems that deliver healthcare.

The Aurum Institute was founded in 1998 in South Africa to develop innovative, locally-driven solutions for the world’s most urgent healthcare challenges.
Founded in response to the HIV and tuberculosis epidemics in South Africa, Aurum has grown from a research organisation into one that works across the full pathway from clinical research and implementation science to programme delivery and health systems strengthening.
Today, our work focuses on tuberculosis, HIV, vaccines, diagnostics and epidemic preparedness. We conduct clinical research, evaluate new medicines, vaccines and diagnostic technologies, support countries to introduce evidence-based interventions, and strengthen health systems so that innovation reaches the people who need it most.
We generate evidence that informs policy and translate policy into practical solutions that improve lives.
Our work is grounded in African expertise and lived realities while contributing to global health.
We combine scientific excellence with real-world delivery through partnerships with governments, funders, and communities.
Our purpose
The purpose of Aurum is to provide evidence-based research and innovative solutions to inform and influence policy at the local and global levels, bridging the gap between evidence and policy to create a healthier world for future generations.
